The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has issued an urgent flood warning to residents living along the Brimsu River and other flood-prone communities in the Cape Coast Metropolis following the overflow of the river after recent heavy rains.
The warning comes after the Brimso River, a major freshwater source in the Central Region that feeds into the Brimso Reservoir, exceeded its capacity and spilled into surrounding communities.
Authorities fear the situation could worsen if rainfall persists, prompting calls for residents in vulnerable areas to relocate immediately to safer locations.
Communities Already Affected
Speaking exclusively to ATL FM News, the Cape Coast North Director of NADMO, Nana Banyin Quayson, confirmed that floodwaters have already inundated homes in Esuekyir, Anafo and nearby communities.
According to him, several houses located along the road leading to the Bonkus area have also been affected by the rising waters.

He explained that the overflow occurred after the river exceeded its carrying capacity, resulting in floodwaters spilling into residential areas.
Residents Urged to Relocate
NADMO is urging residents living near the river and in other flood-prone communities to move to safer grounds immediately to avoid possible injuries, loss of life and damage to property.
Mr. Quayson stressed that residents should take the warning seriously and avoid waiting until conditions deteriorate before seeking safety.
He noted that early relocation remains one of the most effective ways to reduce the impact of flooding on affected families.
Safety Precautions Advised
The NADMO Director further advised residents to remain vigilant and closely follow instructions from emergency response authorities.
He urged the public to avoid crossing flooded roads and waterways and to report emergency situations promptly to the appropriate authorities.
According to him, cooperation from residents will be critical in preventing casualties and ensuring a swift response to any emergencies.
Monitoring the Situation
NADMO says it is closely monitoring developments and assessing the extent of the flooding in affected communities.
Officials are continuing to engage residents while preparing for any additional response measures that may become necessary if weather conditions worsen.
The organisation reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and called on residents to prioritise safety as rainfall continues across parts of the Central Region.
Authorities say the immediate focus remains on preventing loss of life while monitoring water levels along the Brimso River and surrounding flood-prone areas.
