President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to honour the memory of the eight gallant souls who lost their lives in a helicopter crash by promoting unity, compassion, and selfless service to the nation.
Speaking at the National Inter-Faith Memorial Service held at the Kofi Ohene-Konadu Auditorium of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), President Mahama urged citizens to ensure that the sacrifices of the fallen officers continue to inspire national development and patriotism.
““Let us honor them by treating one another with greater kindness, he said.” “Let us honor them by building a Ghana where every citizen feels that their service matters and every sacrifice is remembered.”
President Mahama noted that though it’s been a year on after the unfortunate incident, the loss remains deeply felt by the bereaved families, colleagues, and the nation as a whole.
The Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter was en route to the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) in the Ashanti Region when it crashed near Black Park, close to the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium.
The deceased include former Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and former Environment, Science, and Technology Minister, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.
Also on board wereAlhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Samuel Sarpong, former Central Regional Minister, and Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candid.
The flight crew who also perished included Flying Officer Twum-Ampadu, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
According to President Mahama, the officers would be remembered not because of the circumstances of their deaths, but for their unwavering dedication and service to God and country.
He further prayed for God’s comfort for the bereaved families and asked for continued blessings and protection for all those serving the Republic of Ghana.
“May their memory continue to inspire us. May their sacrifice strengthen our resolve to build a better nation, and may the Almighty God grant them eternal rest and perpetual light,” he said.
