The University Teachers Association of Ghana, or UTAG, has announced that it would go on strike indefinitely beginning today, Monday, January 10, 2021.
In a statement dated January 6, 2022, the association expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of trust that has so far characterised their interactions with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC).
As a result of the employer’s inability to adhere to agreed-upon timetables, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of UTAG has decided to withdraw teaching and associated activities, beginning today, Monday, January 10.
UTAG members on all campuses are being asked to withdraw from teaching and other activities such as exams, invigilation, marking of exam scripts, and processing of exam results.
The group has asked the government to reinstate the service terms agreed upon in 2012.
A lecturer’s Basic plus Market Premium was set at $2,084.42 in 2012 under the terms of service.
UTAG has claimed that the existing arrangement has decreased the basic premiums for its members to $997.84.
