General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Tutus Kofi Beyuo, says Ghanaians who have not been vaccinated pose a bigger threat to the country’s fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
He says, to avoid such an incident to occur in the country, as the President has eased the Covid-19 restrictions, all unvaccinated individuals must be inoculated.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced in his 28th Covid update on Sunday, March 27 that, the wearing of facemasks is no longer mandatory.
He added that all in-person activities, such as those that take place in churches, mosques, conferences, workshops, private parties and events, cinemas, and theatres may resume at full capacity, as long as the audience and/or participants are fully vaccinated.
However, Dr. Beyuo said some Ghanaians are refusing to be vaccinated and this in the long run will pose as a challenge to the health sector.
He, therefore, stressed that “we have to get those people to agree to vaccinate”
Meanwhile, the executive director of the Africa Centre for health Policy Research and Analysis, Dr. Thomas Anaba says government must ensure proper management of the transition.
He says event organizers have no means of monitoring compliance during outdoor events.
To him, gadgets to detect and scan the proof of vaccination card to detect its authenticity should be the way to go.
