The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Cape Coast has issued a strict directive to the student body, ordering them to halt payments on any increased hostel and hall fees for the upcoming academic period.
The Council states that traditional hall fees remain unchanged and urges students to report any private hostel management attempting to increase rent without official Rent Control assessment.
The directive was contained in an official statement dated July 1, 2026, signed by SRC President Kwame Ntiamoah Ntim and General Secretary Jeminah Elorm Ahiabor.
Addressing widespread anxieties over sudden price increments, the student leadership took a firm stance against private hostel operators and campus hall managements.
According to the official notice, “No Student should pay any increment on hostel rent under the current circumstances.” The council emphasized that private hostel managements cannot legally raise prices without a proper, official assessment and explicit approval from Rent Control. Students have been urged to remain vigilant and immediately report any facility attempting to breach this directive.
Furthermore, the SRC stated categorically that “Traditional Hall Fees have not been increased”.
Students have been explicitly directed to completely disregard any fee structures or price lists originating from individual traditional halls and are strongly advised not to make any payments under those structures.
The council described its commitment to safeguarding student financial welfare as “unshakeable” and appealed for absolute cooperation from the entire student body as they collectively navigate these management issues.
The SRC added that further updates will be communicated as the leadership continues to engage with the necessary authorities to secure a fair and definitive resolution for all residential students.
