The Office of the Vice President of the students’ representative council of the University of Cape Coast has held the 5th edition of its ladies empowerment programme dubbed the 21st Century Woman with a call on young women to make continuous learning their goal.

The programme under the theme “Choose the Challenge “Be Bold and Standout” which brought together students, student leaders and gender activists was aimed at shaping and empowering female students into becoming potential leaders who can make positive impacts in society.

Making the call during her address, Director of the Centre for Gender Research, Advocacy and Documentation at the university of cape coast, Dr. Georgina Yaa Oduro explained that considering the relevance of information in our world today, it is necessary for the 21st century woman to be equipped with much of it to be able to discharge every tasks entrusted to her efficiently.

This she said can only be achieved through constant learning.

“To be a 21st century woman and be bold and be able to challenge, then it means that you need some skills, attitude, knowledge of behavior that will equip you to be able to choose to challenge”.

The Central Regional Minister, Justina Marigold Assan in a speech read on her behalf stressed that women are inevitable in Africa’s development even more so in this Covid-19 era because of the critical roles they play in society.

“Women play important roles in developments such as providing inspiring tenacious and diverse ideas. They continue to mobilize parliament movement pushing for social protection to improve lives and inspire a better future for all”.

On his part, the dean of Students’ Affairs, Prof. Eugene Maafo Darteh noted that as a country, achieving the United Nation’s Sustainable Goal 5, must be the responsibility of all which will also be the bedrock for achieving other goals.
