School of Educational Development and Outreach (SEDO) in partnership with the Institutional Affiliation of the University of Cape Coast has broken grounds for the construction of a new 4-Storey Structure at Akotokyire, a community within the university.
The structure will serve as permanent offices for the two separate departments of the university to aid in the smooth running of their respective day-day administrative work.
Antartic Limited, a construction firm has been awarded the contract and it is estimated to be completed in 18 months.
Speaking at the sod-cutting, the pro-Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Mrs. Rosemond Boohene said the building has been earmarked for a purpose that is to serve the affiliate institutions as well as the other stakeholders of the university as such, the purpose should not be defeat when it is fully completed and commissioned.
She stated that due to the ever-changing environment of the university, and the government’s intention to wean the universities off the national budget, the building should be used as a revenue generator for the university.
“In addition, I will add that the environment in which we are operating is changing and therefore we are expecting that when the building is completed, Institutional Affiliations and School of Educational Development and Outreach will use this building as one of the revenue-generating outfits for the university,” she noted.
She also tasked the stakeholders involved to ensure that the project is built to its specifications and also charged Antartic Limited to put in the maximum best to complete the project on the stipulated timeframe.
