The Students’ Financial Support Office (StuFSO) in collaboration with the Design, Thinking, and Innovation Hub (D-HUB) of the University of Cape Coast has organized its annual Awardees’ Symposium for the year 2022.
The awardees’ symposium focuses on training students on the university’s financial support scheme to equip them to take advantage of opportunities during and after their studies.
The symposium is also to equip the students to become entrepreneurial-minded to help in their financial independence.
Speaking to ATLFM NEWS at the symposium, the Director of D-HUB, Dr. Keren Naa Abeka Arthur said the awardees’ symposium training is essential as it will help students to turn business opportunities and ideas around them to their favour and to be able to also meet their financial obligations.
To her, the awardees and participants at the training are people who can be beacons to their families.
She added saying “we think that they are in the position to benefit greatly from having additional skills that will help them to take advantage of other opportunities to change their stories and stories of their families as they use these skills. So, selecting them is in the right direction.”
She also believes they can be pacesetters or people who can create an impact with the knowledge that can benefit the entire student population.
Dr. Arthur said D-HUB will continue to institute such entrepreneurial training for students
She indicated that her outfit is prepared to welcome and offer any kind of assistance to students with innovative and creative entrepreneurial ideas.
On her part the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rosemond Boohene said the Students’ Financial Support office was set up to obtain funds to help the needy but brilliant students of the university.
“The first one is to support them so they will have the peace of mind to study and as part of the activities of the office, we also have this work study. So, students are given the opportunity to work in some of the faculties, departments, and some businesses to be able to also make some money for themselves.”
She notes that the university aims to help needy students learn how to use their skills to earn money through entrepreneurship.
She believes students in this way will also be able to volunteer services to the University and the communities at large.
