The Technical University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (TUTAG) has declared an indefinite strike effective October 1, 2026, over unpaid post-retirement contract remuneration and alleged unilateral changes to its agreed Scheme of Service.
Speaking in an interview on ATL FM’s Mantew mu Nsem, TUTAG Chairman of the Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU) Chapter, Dr. David Kofi Ampah, explained that the industrial action would continue until the outstanding issues are resolved.
He said the association would consider calling off the strike and returning to duty if government provides a clear roadmap and demonstrates commitment to paying all outstanding arrears.
In a statement delivered at a press conference held earlier on Thursday at Ho Technical University, National President of TUTAG, Professor Deodat E. Adenutsi, said the decision followed months of unsuccessful engagements with relevant government agencies.
The association says some members engaged on post-retirement contracts have gone more than 27 months without payment despite rendering services under valid contracts.
The association is also demanding a resolution of disputes surrounding the implementation of its 2021 Scheme of Service, particularly the classification of academic librarians and the requirements for the re-designation of Assistant Lecturers and Assistant Research Fellows.
Dr. Ampah clarified that the association has exhausted several avenues of engagement with the relevant institutions without a tangible resolution.
He therefore maintained that the strike, which took effect today, October 1, would remain in force until the concerns are addressed.
