The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has commissioned new district offices and presented operational vehicles to its offices in Ajumako Enyan Essiam and Abura Asebu Kwamankese in the Central Region.
The facilities and vehicles are expected to strengthen the Authority’s operations at the district levels and improve access to National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) services for residents in the two districts.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Ajumako Enyan Essiam office, the NHIA Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, said the new facility would bring NHIS services closer to residents and contribute to improved service delivery.
He also cautioned healthcare providers against charging NHIS members additional fees for services covered under the scheme, noting that unauthorized charges could prevent some residents from accessing basic healthcare services.
Dr. Bampoe called for the timely and adequate payment of healthcare providers to help prevent situations where providers resort to unauthorized charges.
Meanwhile, he urged NHIS members to know and insist on their rights under the scheme and further encouraged them to seek healthcare promptly, undergo regular health checks and make proper use of their NHIS cards.
He advised members to use the Authority’s One-Time Attendance Code (OTAC) system to curb fraud within the NHIS.
The NHIA continued its commissioning activities in Abura Asebu Kwamankese, where it commissioned a new district office and presented a vehicle to support NHIS operations.
The new offices and vehicles form part of NHIA’s efforts to strengthen its presence at the district level and improve the delivery of healthcare financing services to residents in the Central Region.
