The Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly is set to construct a new 24-hour market in Cape Coast North, which follows the completion of the processes for the project.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with ATLFMNEWS, the Metropolitan Chief Executive for Cape Coast, Mr. George Justice Arthur, disclosed that the project will be funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund.
He revealed that an amount of GH¢30 million has been allocated for market development, with GH¢11 million earmarked to complete the Anafo Market and the remaining GH¢19 million for the commencement of the new 24-hour market.
“I have promised that the northern part of Cape Coast will also have a 24-hour market. In fact, all the processes have been completed,” Mr. Arthur stated.
The MCE He said the project follows a commitment by the District Assemblies Common Fund Administrator, Mr. Ernest Yamson.
Additionally, land for the facility has already been secured after successful consultations with traditional authorities.
“I, together with the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, Dr. Kwamena Mintah Nyarku, met with the chiefs to discuss the project, and the chiefs have provided the land that will be used for the new 24-hour market for the northern part,” he continued.
According to the MCE, the proposed market is expected to expand trading opportunities in the northern part of Cape Coast and support the implementation of the government’s 24-hour economy initiative.
