The President of the Republic of Ghana has ordered the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) to conduct a probe into the operations of the National Service Authority (NSA) under the erstwhile administration.
This follows the discovery of 81,885 suspected ghost names on the Authority’s payroll.
The suspected ghost names were detected following a headcount of active National Service Personnel at the instructions of the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
This is to allow the Ministry clear allowance arrears dating back to August 2024.
The Ministry of Finance has – after this headcount – released an amount of 226, 019, 224 Ghana Cedis, covering arrears of allowance payment for 98,145 actual National Service personnel.
According to the statement, previous management of the Authority presented 180,030 names for allowance payment in 2024.
The management of NSS Authority has been tasked to implement structural reforms, with the aim of establishing adequate controls to prevent the recurrence of the phenomenon of ghost names.
