Dr. Mrs. Regina Okyere-Dankwa has assumed office as the 15th Principal of OLA College of Education with a pledge to rebrand the college and build on the legacies of her predecessors.
At an investiture ceremony to usher her into office, Dr. Okyere-Dankwa said as the Colleges of Education in Ghana are undergoing a massive transformation to reflect the mandate required of tertiary institutions, her vision is to make the college the preferred female College of Education offering Teacher Education in Ghana.
“Colleges of education in Ghana are undergoing a massive transformation to reflect the mandate required of tertiary institutions. The main motive of this reform is to improve quality and increase accessibility in line with the ongoing transformation. My vision is to make Our Lady of Apostles College of Education the preferred female college of education in Ghana. I intend to achieve my vision for OLA College of Education through the following; ethical leadership and good governance. Change in status of training colleges of education in Ghana to produce Bachelor of Education students is a paradigm shift in mandate of Colleges of Education in Ghana. The new status of quality of education which made them truly tertiary will affect staff categorization into junior staff, senior staff and senior members as well as the schedule of a lot of current staff as their ability to facility the teaching learning process for Bachelor of Education degrees”, she said.
She further remarked, “Being a result-oriented person and a team player who wants to establish positive environment with productive leadership, I will live by example by practicing and demonstrating the use of ethical, honest and unselfish behaviors to subordinates. Knowing very that quality relationship is built on trust, fairness, integrity, openness, compassion and respect. I will establish people-centered administration that will bring everyone on board”.

Dr.Okyer-Dankwa further hinted that the College would leverage its human and physical resource to raise the needed IGF to support the activities of the College adding that these resources would augment financial resources from government of the Republic of Ghana.
On science and technology education, she maintained that the development of science laboratories, technological equipment and the creation of awareness to increase female interest in science and technology would be enhanced.
“Teaching of science and technology to students ideally, as in other subjects helps them to think, learn, solve problems and make informed decisions. Development of science laboratories, technological equipment and the creation of awareness to increase female interest in science and teaching will be enhanced. This is because females are particularly underrepresented in science and technology programmes. Students should be empowered to partake in science activities and provide the essential tools and resources that will be needed in female education. The interest of female education in science and technology education will be boosted when females attend colloquium as they meet like -minded females students, and other female personalities they can emulate as role models”, she added.
Dr.Okyer-Dankwa also indicated, “The quality of teaching, learning and research in tertiary education has become a major priority for national development. Tertiary education is central to economic and political development as it is vital to competition in a globalized society. Committee will therefore be ensured that under my administration through the following dimensions; suitability and relevance of curricula, make sure resources are not wasted, that all individual learners in groups are treated equally, views from students and stakeholders are considered, and learners get the settings of this college when they need them”.
