Government has been engaging with stakeholders on potential restriction measures that will ensure safety of citizens to allow for some level of normalcy in daily activities.
This was said by the Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong at a ministerial press briefing on Ghana’s Covid-19 situation.
Since Ghana recorded a case of Covid-19, there have been several restrictions announced by government including the now lifted partial lockdown in Greater Accra, Kasoa and Greater Kumasi as well as a ban on social gatherings.
Following the impact of the previous lock down, government has reiterated that a lockdown is not an option to mitigate the spread of the virus in Ghana. However, health wise, Ghanaians are advised to abide by the restrictions in spite of the possible repercussions.

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah said President Akuffo Addo has been in consultation with stakeholders to come up with safety measures that can allow an easing on the restrictions without compromising the health of the populace.
“The President has already engaged with the Association of Ghana Industries, on potential measures for work place safety. Industries have volunteered some measures will be made mandatory in all work places and these measures are currently under consideration”.
Mr. Oppong Nkrumah further hinted that “The President has engaged with the education community with a potential post restriction measures that will allow a reopening of schools while protecting students, faculty and none teaching staff.”
He said the President is concerned with the “millions of Ghanaian students whose education is now challenged because of the restrictions” and as a result has initiated steps to find alternative ways that will ensure that schools reopen for normal academic exercises to resume.

He said authorities at the transport sector are also being engaged to ensure how passengers and drivers can go on their normal duties while reducing potential risk of contracting the virus.
Football Associations and faith based organisations he indicates have also presented proposals for consideration on the easing of restrictions.
While taking steps to ease the restrictions, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah explained that some legal options are also being explored to ensure the stricter enforcement of the safety protocols.
The Information Minister added that though the President has responded to the various suggestions coming certain quarters of the Ghanaian society, these engagements do not mean that government has accepted those proposals.
