Renowned Ghanaian highlife musician, Dada Kwaku Duah, popularly known as Dada KD, has sadly passed away.

The heartbreaking news was confirmed by his manager, King Pee, when he spoke with the Entertainment News Desk of ATL FM.

According to King Pee, the veteran artiste had been ill for a while now, but the situation aggravated on the morning of Friday, May 16, 2025, and became unresponsive and unable to speak.

Dada KD passed away on Friday, May 17 2025

He was rushed to the Gbawe SDA Hospital in Accra, but tragically, he passed away that same evening.

At the time of his death, Dada KD was actively preparing for a major performance scheduled for May 25, 2025, in London, a concert that was highly anticipated by fans across the Ghanaian diaspora.

Before Dada KD passed away, he predicted his own death in 2020, after the passing of his colleague highlife musician, Kofi B and actor, Bernard Nyarko.

In an emotional Facebook post, the Highlife Singer Dada KD said it won’t be long before he joins his colleagues, Kofi B and Bishop Bernard Nyarko, who had both passed on to eternity recently.

Reacting to the death, emotionally broken Dada KD wrote on his Facebook wall that;

He said “May your gentle soul find you a perfect place to keep you Bishop Bernard Nyarko. My regards to Kofi B and tell him it won’t be long I’ll join you all too soon . our industry sucks”.

It was not clear why the artist made such a post, but it was suspected that Dada KD was broken by the industry, which should have protected him over the years.

Dada KD leaves behind a remarkable legacy in Ghana’s highlife music scene. Known for his soulful voice, poetic lyrics, and deep cultural resonance, he was one of the few remaining purists of the traditional highlife genre. Over the decades, his music touched on themes of love, heartbreak, societal values, and spirituality.

Some of his most celebrated songs include:

  • “Odo Mu Anigye”
  • “Ene Me Nye”
  • “Yebeye Yen Ho Fi”
  • “So Mu Gye”
  • “Obiaa Se Eye”
  • “Fatia Fata Nkrumah”
  • “Mato Odo Mu”
  • “Me Nsa Da Wo So”
  • “Me Hia Odo”
  • “Mene Wo Nkoaa”
  • “Aban Nsuo”

His discography spans several decades and includes timeless albums and singles such as:

  • “Aban Nsuo” (1994) – A socially conscious song about government and people.
  • “Akua Ataa”
  • “Obaa Pa”
  • “Odo Mu Anigye” – One of his signature love songs.
  • “Me Hia Odo”
  • “Nsem Keka”
  • “Mafe Odo”
  • “Yebeye Yen Ho Fi”
  • “Odo Da Me So”
  • “Somu Gye”

Dada KD’s music was both emotive and philosophical. His ability to combine traditional Ghanaian instrumentation with heartfelt storytelling made him a household name, not just in Ghana, but among highlife lovers abroad. His lyrics often reflected his deep reflections on relationships, morality, and life’s trials.

Even in his final days, Dada KD remained devoted to his craft, actively rehearsing for performances and staying connected with his loyal fanbase. His sudden passing has left a void in the music industry and among highlife enthusiasts who admired his consistency, originality, and passion.

Dada KD will be remembered not just for his music, but for being a true cultural icon — a custodian of Ghanaian highlife whose contributions will continue to influence generations to come.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.
