The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) has issued notice of its withdrawal from the upcoming December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections following the death of its founder and flagbearer.
This notice comes after the Electoral Commission’s request to the party to nominate a new presidential candidate after Madam Akua Donkor’s death on October 29, 2024.
In a letter addressed to the Electoral Commission and signed by its National Organizer Richard Botchway, the party said that the decision was taken in consultation with Madam Akua Donkor’s family.
The party intimated that the decision, though difficult, is to posthumously honour the sacrifices and commitment of their late founder and flagbearer.
This notice comes a day after the party issued a letter, written by its General Secretary George Afful, to the Electoral Commission announcing the nomination of a new presidential candidate following the Commission’s request.
