Digital marketing and communications consultant, Naasei Boadi, says Ghana stands to benefit from employment opportunities when Twitter finally establishes its African headquarters in Ghana.
“If they are going to run a full operation, we will start to benefit in terms of jobs because there would be job openings for people here. It will also depend on what arrangements our leaders had with them so that they don’t bring in other people too from outside, but definitely, there would be some jobs here and that is good.”
He added that “It would mean also that they are spending a bit of money here so there is an investment here, whether it’s in terms of infrastructure or whatever”
Last week, Twitter announced its decision to base its African headquarters in Ghana.
The social media giant is already looking to fill 12 positions but will hold off on opening a physical office until the Covid-19 pandemic subsides.
Mr Boadi however believes that the possibility of employment hinges on the tech and social media company’s decision to run full operations rather than a remote one from its main headquarters.
“For a lot of these tech companies most of the systems will be examined from back home or they can be remote and what they have here is just a field sales team that then gives access to their people here support when they are running ads and things like that, so a lot of the technical infrastructure won’t be here.”
