In Kasoa, cholera cases have unfortunately surged, with the Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, confirming that the number of reported cases has reached fifty-six.
Among these, forty-six patients are currently receiving treatment in local health facilities, while the death toll stands at five.
During a media briefing on November 4, 2024, after touring some health facilities in Kasoa, Dr. Kuma-Aboagye reassured the public that treatment centres have been established specifically to address cholera cases.
He emphasized that, with proper medical care, cholera can be effectively treated.
Dr. Kuma-Aboagye also urged residents to keep their surroundings clean, highlighting the critical role of hygiene in preventing further outbreaks.
He advocated wash facilities at all places to enhance hand washing at all times as was done during the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.
“Schools must ensure they have WASH facilities and have running water to wash their hands with soap, workplaces must have that and marketplaces must do all the needful to ensure that a sanitary environment is important…”
He said this will help safeguard individuals against the cholera which is fast spreading in the country.
Therefore, he said WASH facilities must be available at all public places across the country stressing that no more deaths should be recorded.
