Cheapest Electricity cost: Ghana ranked 1st, 9th in West Africa, Africa

Ghana is ranked first in West Africa and ninth in Africa for the cheapest household electricity prices.

According to Global Petrol Prices.com, the nation ranks twenty-seventh in the world.

The rankings come at a time when utility tariff suppliers in the nation are arguing for utility tariff increases.

The global average price of electricity for residential users is $0.133 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) and $0.124 per kWh for commercial users.

In Ghana, the home power rate per kilowatt-hour is $0.046, which is less than one dollar.

The situation is comparable to that of commercial customers, albeit electricity bills in the area are less expensive.

This clearly demonstrates that, relative to other nations on the continent, the cost of household electricity in the country is quite cheap.

This bolsters the argument made by utility tariff providers for a forthcoming hike in energy and water costs. While the Electricity Company of Ghana requests a 148 percent rise in electricity rates between 2019 and 2022, the Ghana Water Company Limited requests a 334 percent increase in water rates.

Meanwhile, the household electricity rate in Sudan is the lowest in Africa and the world.

Libya and Ethiopia occupy the second and third spots, respectively.
