Central Regional Deputy Director of Health, Dr. Godfred Kwabena Sarpong has said that the region is yet to reach its peak of confirmed Covid19 cases.
Speaking on the assertion by the Ghana Health Service that Ghana has reached its peak of the Covid19 pandemic, Dr. Sarpong said same cannot be said about the central region.
Dr. Sarpong explained on ATL FM’s Atlantic wave on Wednesday that peaking of COVID-19 infection may vary from region to region as it is dependent on the specific location and other sociocultural factors of a people.
“Where Greater Accra Region is, with respect to COVID 19 is not where Central Region is and where Central Region is, is not where Western Region is. Central Region, for me, I think we are just evolving, we are just cutting our curve and I wouldn’t want to compare our region to Accra or where Western Region is. I think our context and social dynamics around these places differ depending on the location.”
Currently, Ghana’s case count of the coronavirus has shot up to 3,091 with the Central Region recording 50 cases.

Dr. Sarpong stressed that majority of the new cases in the Central Region are as a result of the testing in communities where cases had been recorded earlier.
Of the fifty (50) cases in the Central Region, Cape Coast has recorded fifteen (15), Kasoa has sixteen (16) and Mfantseman has recorded 8 cases. There are also three (3) cases in Abura Dunkwa, two (2) cases in Elmina, two (2) in Swedru, one (1) case each at Efutu, Ekumfi, and Ajumako respectively.
Dr. Sarpong also indicated that with Kasoa currently being the Covid19 hotspot of the region, the Ghana Health Service is set to begin a mass testing exercise in the area to identify and isolate people who have contracted the virus.
The Central Regional Health Directorate said it is embarking on community education as well as mass community testing to help reduce the rate of infection.
