The embattled Cape Coast North parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress Mr Kwamena Minta Nyarku has refuted allegations levelled against him leading to the withdrawal of his voter ID card by the Electoral Commission.

Mr Nyarku, popularly known as Ragga, was challenged for providing wrong information on his residential address. As a result, the Electoral Commission withdrew his voters’ identification card.

The EC’s decision might prevent Mr Nyarku from contesting for the 2020 parliamentary seat of the Cape Coast North constituency since he may not have a voters’ card, a paramount recommendation for any aspirant contesting elections per Ghana’s electoral laws.

However, in a release issued by the candidate a day after his card was withdrawn, Mr Nyarku said he wished to “correct some wrong impressions and obvious propaganda that have been circulating since the news broke”

According to him, he has met all the “requirement to vote in Ghana and indeed I have participated in the previous elections conducted by the Electoral Commission of Ghana.”

“I have been a resident and still a resident of the Cape Coast North Constituency and currently resides in the electoral area where I recently registered in the on-going voters’ registration exercise” part of the release read.

Mr Nyarku said his legal team has taken up the matter and “the necessary legal steps to safeguard my constitutional rights are being considered and will be acted upon as soon as possible.”
