The Central Regional Minister Designate, Eduamoah Ekow Panyin Okyere has pledged to prioritize the revival of the Komenda Sugar Factory in the Central Region with the speed of light.
“The Komenda Sugar Factory is not just an economic project; it is a symbol of the industrial potential of the Central Region. We have no option but to bring it back with military speed… in fact, with the speed of light.”
He made bold the statement when he appeared before the Appointment Committee of Parliament on Friday for his vetting, assuring that operation of the factory will resume during his tenure.
To achieve this, Eduamoah Okyere said he will engage stakeholders to determine the quickest and most efficient path forward.
He stressed on the factory’s potential to create jobs, reduce sugar imports, save foreign exchange, and stimulate the local economy.
He also outlined plans to collaborate with the Ministry of Trade and Industry to ensure a sustainable supply of sugarcane by supporting out-grower farmers with funding and resources.
Commitment to Infrastructure Development
Beyond the Komenda Sugar Factory, Eduamoah committed to continuing abandoned projects before initiating news ones, stating that resource allocation will be strategic and based on the people’s needs.
He further outlined a multi-faceted approach that will focus on industrialization, skills development and support for small businesses, particularly agro-industrial projects.
He said he will also introduce vocational training programmes tailored to the job market, ensuring that graduates are equipped with the necessary skills to be employable.
“I will collaborate with financial institutions to support youth entrepreneurship through startup funding and mentorship programmes. Our region has untapped potential in tourism and agriculture, and I will ensure we maximize these sectors for economic growth and employment,” he continued.
The former Member of Parliament for Gomoa East and current NDC Central Regional Vice Chairman further highlighted plans to ensure equitable development across all districts in the region.
He emphasized that his approach will be data-driven, ensuring no community is left behind.
“Under my leadership, every district, from Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira to Assin North, will receive its fair share of development projects. Additionally, I will ensure transparency and accountability in project implementation so that no community is left behind.”
Eduamoah Ekow Panyin Okyere said his aim is to transform the region into a hub of economic activity and prosperity through teamwork and determination.
