Personality on social media Rosemond Brown was sentenced to 90 days in prison after being convicted of indecent content publication and domestic abuse.
Rosemond Brown, also identified as Akuapem Poloo, was found guilty of sharing a naked picture of herself and her seven-year-old son on his birthday, June 30, 2020.
On Wednesday, she pled guilty to all three charges and was found guilty by the court based on her own plea, notwithstanding the fact that she had previously pleaded not guilty.
An Accra circuit court handed down her sentence today, Friday, April 16, 2021.
Rosemond Brown’s attorneys want to appeal the conviction.
Christina Cann, the magistrate, bemoaned the recent spate of pornography on Ghanaian social media.
According to her, Rosemond Brown’s sentence could act as a deterrent to others.
Bright Appiah, the Director of Child Rights International Ghana, was the plaintiff in the event.
Since the picture went viral on social media, he filed a complaint with the authorities, and the case was transferred to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU).
Rosemund confessed to sharing the naked photo of her son following her detention in 2020, according to the prosecutor, but said she did so unwittingly.
“I am naked in front of you because this is how naked I was giving birth to you, so in case you find me lying somewhere don’t pass by but see me as your mom who brought you to life,” the caption added.
Rosemond allegedly shared the photos on social media on purpose, according to the prosecutors.
Ghanaians have shown solidarity for Rosemond Brown, who has been characterized as stern in her belief.
Following her arrest on Wednesday, the hashtag “FreeAkuapemPoloo” was trending on social media.
Sarkodie, Efya, Hajia For Real, Akumaa Mama Zimbi, and other prominent Ghanaians in the entertainment industry have expressed their support for Rosemond Brown and called for her publication.
