The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has officially sworn in Professor Christine Adu-Yeboah as Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor for a five-month term, with the University management emphasizing faith, collaboration and academic excellence as pillars for the university’s continued growth.
Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, Professor Adu-Yeboah attributed her appointment to divine grace, saying her unwavering belief in God has shaped the values and character that have defined her academic journey.
She said this belief has shaped my thoughts, actions, habits and values and has caused me to get noticed.”
she said the honour was not a personal achievement but a testament to God’s favour, adding that the appointment would inspire her to continue serving both the university and society with humility and dedication.
Professor Adu-Yeboah expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor for nominating her and to the Governing Council for confirming her appointment.
She acknowledged the support of provosts, deans, directors, heads of department and staff members who contributed to her academic and leadership development.
“… I also thank all senior colleagues… for the contributions they made towards my growth and development as an academic… I thank my Provost, Professor Douglas D. Agyei, for believing in me, ” she added.
Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor Professor Denis Worlanyo Aheto outlined the enormous responsibility that comes with the office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor, stressing that success would depend on teamwork and effective institutional leadership.
He noted that the Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor’s foremost responsibility would be to support management in implementing the university’s strategic objectives while fostering collaboration across administrative and academic units.
“The office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor demands unwavering commitment, sound judgement and effective collaboration. Your foremost responsibility will be to provide steadfast support to the Vice-Chancellor and the entire management in advancing the strategic objectives of the university,” he continued.
“Professor Aheto further reminded the new Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor that the university’s reputation is ultimately built on the quality of teaching, research and student support delivered within its colleges, schools and departments.
He therefore encouraged her to maintain close engagement with faculties and academic units to strengthen governance and institutional excellence.
The Vice-Chancellor acknowledged the demanding and often unpredictable nature of the office but expressed confidence that Professor Adu-Yeboah’s experience, professionalism and resilience had prepared her to successfully steer the university in her acting capacity over the next five months.
