The Ministry of Health has assured the public that Ghana remains free of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), dismissing viral social media reports claiming the country has recorded thousands of infections and hundreds of deaths.
The Ministry described the widely circulated figures alleging 2,300 Ebola cases and 930 deaths as false and misleading, urging the public to disregard the claims and rely only on information from official health authorities.
Ministry Refutes Viral Claims
In a statement, the Ministry said it had taken notice of a publication circulating on social media and attributed to the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) News, which alleged a major Ebola outbreak in Ghana.
The Ministry stressed that no case of Ebola Virus Disease has been recorded in Ghana and described the figures being shared online as inaccurate.
It urged the public to avoid spreading unverified reports that could create unnecessary fear and panic.
Preparedness Does Not Mean an Outbreak
The Ministry explained that recent visits by the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, to points of entry, laboratories and treatment facilities were part of routine public health preparedness measures.

According to the Ministry, the inspections were conducted to strengthen Ghana’s readiness to detect and respond to any potential public health emergency and should not be interpreted as evidence of an Ebola outbreak.
Public Asked to Rely on Official Information
Health authorities have encouraged the public to obtain updates only from the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service, warning that misinformation can undermine public confidence and fuel unnecessary anxiety.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining surveillance systems and preparedness measures to protect the country against infectious disease outbreaks.
