The Oguaa Traditional Council is set to launch the 61st Oguaa Fetu Afahye Festival on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at the Ato Austin Gardens at Chapel Square in Cape Coast.
The launch will mark the commencement of the annual celebration by the people of Cape Coast.
The Oguaa Fetu Afahye festival is one of the biggest celebrations in the Central Region that showcases the rich cultural heritage of the Fante people and a time to show gratitude to the 77 gods of Oguaa.
Speaking on ATLFM’s Mantew Mu Nsem, Elicot Nana Kweku Okyere, the secretary for the 2025 Oguaa Fetu Afahye planning committee, shared insights regarding the planning of this year’s festival.
He emphasized that the early launch of the festival this year was a strategic decision to ensure adequate preparations and addressing challenges faced in previous years.
“We don’t want the celebration of the Festival after 60 years to just be an event and waiting until later to launch the festival often delays the development and benefits the Afahye brings to the people of Cape Coast. Launching it early is also to correct past mistakes and prepare adequately for the upcoming one,” he continued.
As part of the launch, there will a procession from the Zion Aboom Park in Cape Coast to the Ato Austin Gardens by the Nanaanom, Asafo companies, workers, traders, students among others before the launch.
According to Nana Kweku Okyere, the planning committee of the 2024 Oguaa Planning Committee will be maintain for the planning of the 2025 Celebrations.
The committee is chaired by former electoral commission chairperson, Madam Charlotte Osei, also known as Sofohen Nana Ama Kesson
