Ghana’s borders still remain closed until further notice despite the easing of some Covid19 restrictions by government.
President Akufo Addo in his 10th televised address to the nation said, though the country’s borders are shut, there are measures in place to evacuate Ghanaians who have been stranded abroad due to the border closure. According to the President, individuals who will be evacuated from foreign countries will be made to undergo mandatory quarantine.
“Our border, by air, land and sea, remains closed until further notice for human traffic. However, given that there are Ghana residents stranded abroad, special dispensation is going to be given for their evacuation back to Ghana, where they will be subjected to mandatory quarantine and safety protocols” he said
Ghana’s borders were first shut to international travels on Saturday, March 21, 2020. Those who have been allowed entry into the country since then are returning Ghanaians and foreign nationals with Ghanaian residence permits.
Meanwhile some restrictions have been eased and will take effect from June 5 2020. These include the reopening of schools for final year students in the Junior High Schools, Senior high schools and Universities.

University final year students will be going back to school on 15th June 2020 while final year Senior High School students are expected to resume on 22nd June 2020. Junior High School students who are preparing for their final examinations will also go back to school on Monday, June 29, 2020. However, all other educational institutions other than the final years will remain closed.
From June 5th 2020, Muslims can begin their usual Friday service with a restricted number of not more than one hundred people per service. Churches will also begin their normal service on 7th June 2020 with the same number of attendants per service.
According to the President, “any institution that will be found violating any of the safety guidelines will have its activities closed and the necessary sanctions applied”. So far, Ghana’s case stands at 8070 positive cases, 2947 recoveries, and 36 deaths.
