A Senior Lecturer with the department of accounting at the University of Cape Coast, Rev. Dr. George Tackie says citizens must file their tax returns since it helps government to plan and understand their personal circumstances.

He said tax reliefs on the other hand helps to reduce tax burden on individuals since many people have lots of responsibilities which salaries cannot cover completely.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with ATLFMNEWS, Dr. Tackie encouraged staff of the University of Cape Coast to seek assistance in filing their tax reliefs at the UCC Finance directorate while the general public can seek such assistance at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

He notes that it is important for individuals to take advantage of what tax laws provide to relieve income earners of tax burdens in this age of diverse responsibilities.

He further added that the law provides consequences for those who refuse to file their tax returns.

Rev. Dr. George Tackie emphasized saying tax return is for government while tax relief is for individuals as government wants to make sure that the right amount of tax returns is attained yearly.

To this end, he said this makes it important for every tax paying Ghanaian to file their taxes returns.

Rev. Dr. Tackie said individuals and all corporate entities who gain all forms of income must declare their tax returns with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) since defaulters will be penalized.
