Two Port Health officers have been sanctioned after allegedly charging a passenger twice the approved fee for a Yellow Fever Card at Accra International Airport.
The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) says the officers, who were stationed at Terminal 3, charged a foreign passport holder US$40 instead of the approved US$20 on August 5, 2026.
Following the incident, their airport identification cards were withdrawn and deactivated, barring them from working at Accra International Airport and all other airports managed by GACL.
Officers Barred from GACL Airports
In a statement, GACL said the sanctions took effect on August 6 as part of measures to strengthen accountability and eliminate extortion at the country’s airports.
The company warned that personnel found engaging in unauthorised charges or other forms of extortion risk losing access to airport facilities.
Extortion Crackdown Intensifies
The sanctions come shortly after GACL announced a series of measures to tackle extortion following growing concerns from passengers.
Among the measures is a mystery shopping programme, which will deploy undercover individuals to monitor service delivery and identify personnel involved in misconduct.
GACL has also introduced a “name and shame” policy, tougher disciplinary measures and a dedicated reporting channel for passengers.

Immigration Officer Transferred
In a separate development, GACL said it had taken note of a viral video showing a Ghana Immigration Service officer allegedly requesting money for “breakfast” from a passenger.
According to the company, the Ghana Immigration Service subsequently confirmed that the officer had been transferred from the airport.
Passengers Urged to Report Misconduct
GACL says monitoring and enforcement will be intensified across airports under its management as part of its zero-tolerance approach to extortion.
Passengers have been encouraged to document and report suspected misconduct under the campaign message: “Spot it. Record it. Report it.”
