Senior High School (SHS) students across Ghana are set to benefit from fresh funding released by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to support the provision of perishable food items in schools.

The funds have been disbursed to Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) to cover the period from March 1 to September 4, 2026, ensuring the continued supply of essential food items for SHS 2 and SHS 3 students.

According to the GES, the funds have already been transferred into the accounts of the beneficiary schools.

Schools Receive Funding

In a statement dated July 15, 2026, the Service directed all Regional Directors of Education to notify heads of SHSs and SHTSs that the payments had been made.

The funding is expected to help schools maintain uninterrupted feeding services by providing perishable food items required during the approved period.

Accountability Measures

The Ghana Education Service has instructed heads of schools to submit official receipts confirming receipt of the funds.

The receipts are to be forwarded to the Director-General through the respective Regional Accountants to ensure proper financial accountability.

The directive was signed by the Deputy Director-General responsible for Quality Assurance and Improvement, Munawaru Issahaque, on behalf of the Director-General.

Supporting Student Welfare

GES says the release of the funds forms part of ongoing efforts to support student welfare and ensure schools have the resources needed to provide quality meals.

The Service expressed confidence that the timely disbursement would help schools effectively manage feeding arrangements throughout the approved period.

Cooperation Requested

The Ghana Education Service has called on Regional Directors of Education and heads of schools to work together to ensure the smooth implementation of the directive.

The Service also urged school authorities to comply fully with the accountability requirements to promote transparency in the management of public funds.
