As the New Patriotic Party prepares for its highly anticipated presidential primaries, emerging sentiments from the Central Region suggest growing confidence in former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the frontrunner to clinch the party’s flagbearership.

The NPP is scheduled to go to the polls on January 31, 2026, when delegates across the country will elect a presidential candidate ahead of the 2028 general elections. The contest is shaping up to be competitive, with several high-profile contenders intensifying grassroots engagements and delegate outreach.

Aside Dr. Bawumia, the race features Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, and Kwabena Adjei Agyepong, all of whom are actively courting party delegates nationwide.

In street interviews and informal interactions across parts of the Central Region, opinions were divided. While some residents threw their support behind Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, citing his bold political style and business background, a significant number expressed strong belief that Dr. Bawumia remains the party’s best bet.

Supporters of the former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia argue that his experience in government, visibility on the national political stage, and long-standing association with the party place him ahead of the pack.

“Dr. Bawumia is the right choice to lead the party forward,” one resident remarked, reflecting a view shared by many others who believe his candidature offers the NPP its strongest chance in the next general election.

With less than two weeks to the primaries, campaigns are expected to intensify further as aspirants make final appeals to delegates, setting the stage for what party insiders describe as one of the most closely watched internal elections in the NPP’s history.
