The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has initiated processes to expel Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng following his description of the NPP as a “fake party” and his public declaration that he no longer considers himself a member.
The decision comes less than 24 hours after Prof. Frimpong Boateng appeared on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Monday, January 12, 2026.
During the interview, he told host Bernard Avle, “The present NPP is not NPP. It is fake. From what I see now, this is not the NPP I used to know.”
In the same interview, the former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Frimpong Boateng, alleged that the 2023 Presidential Primary, which elected Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer, was rigged.
In a statement issued today, January 13, 2026, the party announced it is seeking his permanent removal for “reprehensible conduct” that undermines the integrity of the institution.
The statement, signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, unequivocally rejected the rigging claims, insisting the election was widely acknowledged as credible by all participating candidates.
The leadership maintains that publicly attacking the party and claiming he is no longer a member, Frimpong-Boateng has forfeited his right to remain within its ranks.
In addition, the party says it views the conduct and utterances of Prof. Frimpong as highly inimical to the values, unity, and integrity of the Party.
“Consequently, the Party has invoked the relevant provisions of its Constitution to commence the necessary processes to expel him from the Party, strictly in accordance with due process.”
