The Metropolitan Chief Executive (Mayor) for Cape Coast, Hon. George Justice Arthur, has disclosed that some beach lands for development projects along the Cape Coast Beach Road were acquired illegally.
According to the Mayor, documents requested to justify some of the acquisitions were found to be inaccurate, raising serious concerns about the processes involved.
He emphasized that the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly (CCMA) is currently reviewing the situation and will take the necessary steps to protect public interest and safeguard the metropolis’s coastal lands.
Mr. Justice Arthur made this revelation during his first Media Accountability Forum, held exactly seven (7) months into his tenure as Mayor of Cape Coast. The forum took place at the CCMA Hall and formed part of his commitment to transparency, accountability, and open governance.
Addressing members of the media, the Mayor highlighted key achievements recorded within the past seven months, outlined ongoing development initiatives, and shared his strategic vision for the future growth and sustainable development of Cape Coast. He demonstrated confidence and a deep understanding of issues affecting the metropolis, responding candidly and meticulously to questions from journalists. This, he noted, reflects his readiness to continuously engage stakeholders and keep residents well-informed on matters of public interest.
The Media Encounter was attended by the Metropolitan Coordinating Director, Mr. Asumah Braimah; the Central Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Mr. Kingsley Nana Buadu; some Honourable Assembly Members; and Heads of Departments of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly.
The engagement underscored the significance of effective media relations in local governance. Further, it solidified the partnership between the Metropolitan Assembly and the media as key collaborators in promoting development, transparency, and accountability.
