A tragic road traffic accident on the Cape Coast-Takoradi highway has claimed the lives of two persons and left 14 others injured.
The incident which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, 23rd December, 2025, at Abakam, Elmina, involved a Toyota Corolla and a Sprinter bus.
The Central Regional Fire Command, in its preliminary report, said the Elmina Fire Station received a distress call at about 5:11 a.m. on the said date and responded quickly to the scene. Upon arrival at the scene, rescue personnel found that the two vehicles – a Toyota Corolla with registration number GS 2455-25 and a Sprinter bus, registration number WR 316-24, had collided, resulting in multiple casualties.



At the scene, the fire team found that the fourteen injured persons had already been rescued and rushed to the hospital before their arrival. Four of the victims were sent to the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Hospital, while the ten others were taken to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital for medical attention.
A follow-up by the rescue team at the health facilities later confirmed that two out of the four victims admitted to the UCC Hospital had succumbed to their injuries.
The regional command says the cause of the accident is yet to be officially determined as investigations continue, adding that “the incident adds to growing concerns over road safety on the Cape Coast–Takoradi stretch, particularly during the early morning hours.”
