The Ghana Armed Forces has announced that six (6) potential recruits have died as a result of a stampede that occurred before the commencement of the 2025/2026 recruitment exercise today, Wednesday, 12th November, 2025.
In a statement issued by the Ghana Armed Forces, it stated that preliminary investigations indicate that “the stampede was triggered by an unexpected surge of applicants who breached security protocols and rushed into the gates ahead of scheduled screening at about 0620 hours.”
According to the statement signed by the Acting Director-General of Public Relations, Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, the injured are receiving emergency medical care at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.
“Ghana Armed Forces assures the general public that medical teams are working tirelessly to stabilize affected individuals. Meanwhile, arrangements are being made to notify the families of the deceased. ”, the statement added.
GAF also extended its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a swift recovery to those injured.
The El-Wak Stadium in Accra, which is the venue for the exercise, was thronged by scores of potential recruits earlier today, hoping to complete the recruitment processes.
The statement concluded by assuring that updates will be communicated in due course.
