The Ghana Police Service has arrested ten individuals for allegedly operating fake online food delivery platforms to defraud unsuspecting customers across the country.
According to a statement issued by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Monday, October 13, 2025, the suspects were apprehended after sustained intelligence operations led by the Cybercrime Unit of the CID.
The initial six suspects identified as Wonder Sakpiti, Sedinam Amaglo, Godsway Dunyo, Angela Agblemekpe, Mathew Aheto, and Fafali Amoah were picked up during a targeted operation on October 1, 2025, at Sogakope.
“The operation followed sustained intelligence gathering, which led to the arrest of three males and three females suspected to be behind the fraudulent scheme,” the CID said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had created fake websites and social media pages posing as well-known food brands such as Papaye, Pizzaman, KFC, and Mawarko. Victims who placed orders on these fake platforms were directed to make mobile money payments but never received their food.
The statement further noted that “in some cases, the suspects gained unauthorized access to victims’ mobile wallets and bank accounts under the guise of assisting them with payments and subsequently withdrew funds.”
During the operation, police retrieved several digital devices believed to have been used in the scam, which are currently undergoing forensic examination.
Subsequent investigations also led to the arrest of the alleged syndicate leader, Elijah Sotama Etse also known as Pop Smoke and three others: Elliot Sotama Atsu, Jethro Atsu, and Obed Selasi Agboli, at their hideout in Haatso, Accra.
“Twelve mobile phones were retrieved from the suspects and are being preserved for forensic examination,” the CID added.
All ten suspects are currently in police custody and will be arraigned before court today, Monday, October 13, 2025.
The Police Service has since urged members of the public who may have fallen victim to the scam to report to the nearest police station to assist with investigations.
Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer for the CID, emphasized the Service’s commitment to protecting citizens from cybercrime, stating that “the Ghana Police Service remains resolute in its fight against online fraud and will continue to pursue and bring perpetrators to justice.”
