Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has announced that effective October 1, 2025, DStv subscribers in Ghana will enjoy between 33 and 50 percent more value on their packages.
At a press conference in Accra on Monday, September 29, 2025, Mr. George made the announcement alongside top executives of MultiChoice Africa, representatives from MultiChoice Ghana, and officials from the Ministry and its subsidiary agencies.
According to the Minister, subscribers will be automatically upgraded to the next package tier, giving them access to more channels at no additional cost.
“For example, subscribers on the Paddy package will be upgraded to the Access package at no extra cost,” he explained. “Subscribers on the Premium bouquet, which is available for GHC 865, will retain all their channels and also gain automatic entry into a competition to win a fully paid trip to watch selected English Premier League games subject to terms and conditions.”
Mr. George revealed that he initially requested a 30% upgrade from MultiChoice but was pleased to have secured even more for Ghanaians.
“The offer is available to both existing and new customers from 1st of October, 2025. Effectively, MultiChoice has offered value over and above what we expected of them. I went into this with a request for 30%. With what we have discussed here, the lowest is 33%, the highest is 50%.”
In addition, MultiChoice Africa will provide a GHC 555 subsidy for the Zapper decoder and dish kit, giving new customers a 50 percent discount.
The Minister further disclosed that a Stakeholder Committee will reconvene in three months to evaluate the initiative’s outcomes. He also announced the establishment of a working group to tackle cross-border piracy of DStv decoders.
The working group will include representatives from the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation (MoCDTI), the National Communications Authority (NCA), the Cybersecurity Authority (CSA), the Ghana Domain Name Registry, the National IT Agency (NITA), the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), the Ghana Police Service, MultiChoice Africa, and MultiChoice Ghana.
“I acknowledge the mutual respect and candour throughout the committee’s deliberations. I must commend the committee and all members for their commitment to achieving these outcomes within the rigid timeframe, especially during a period when MultiChoice Africa was undergoing a shareholder transition,” Sam George said.
He further cautioned individuals using pirated decoders or “ghost boxes” that their subscription accounts would be deactivated and permanently blocked.
The government expects that the new measures will address long-standing concerns raised by the Ghanaian public over DStv prices and value.
