Veteran Highlife musician, Nana Acheampong, has announced the release of a heartfelt tribute song in memory of his lifelong friend and music partner, Daddy Lumba, who passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
The tribute, titled “Due K Fosu”, was released today, Thursday, August 21, 2025 about 10 hours ago. The song is dedicated to the memory of Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kojo Fosu, one of Ghana’s most celebrated and influential Highlife musicians.
In an emotional Facebook post on Wednesday, Nana Acheampong wrote:
“A tribute song to Daddy Lumba drops on Thursday 21st August 2025. Due! K, Fosu ??. In the realm of Ghanaian music, few names shine as brightly as my brother. A trailblazer, an icon, a legend. His passing leaves a void that can never be filled. But as we mourn his departure, we also celebrate his life, his music, his enduring legacy. I pay my heartfelt tribute to Kojo Fosu with a soul-stirring song that captures the essence of our bond and the impact of his music on generations. ?”
The announcement has already generated waves of emotion among fans and industry stakeholders, many of whom continue to mourn the death of Daddy Lumba, regarded as a pillar of Ghanaian Highlife music.
Last month, Acheampong expressed his devastation at the news of his colleague’s passing, writing:
“It has been difficult for me to accept this sad news. Menua Kojo Fosu, why this shock? Hmmm, you have indeed done what the Creator brought you on earth to do; you will forever inspire generations.”
He also extended heartfelt condolences to the Fosu family, noting that his own family was in deep pain over the loss:
“To the family of my beloved brother, may God hold you tight in this moment.”
The bond between the two legends runs deep in the history of Ghanaian music. Nana Acheampong and Daddy Lumba formed the iconic Lumba Brothers in the late 1980s, a partnership that significantly shaped the Highlife genre. Their collaboration produced timeless records, including the 1989 classic album “Yɛɛyɛ Aka Akwantuo Mu”, which remains one of the most celebrated works in Highlife history.
Together, the Lumba Brothers redefined contemporary Highlife, blending soulful lyrics, infectious rhythms, and storytelling that resonated with Ghanaians at home and abroad. Although they later pursued solo careers, their influence as a duo continues to inspire new generations of musicians.
The passing of Daddy Lumba has left an irreplaceable gap in Ghana’s music landscape, but Acheampong’s upcoming tribute seeks to both honour his memory and preserve his enduring legacy.
Meanwhile, preparations for Daddy Lumba’s final funeral rites are underway. A one-week observation will be held on August 30, 2025, in Accra, followed by the main funeral in Kumasi, his hometown.
As the nation prepares to bid farewell to one of its greatest musical icons, Nana Acheampong’s tribute will serve as both a farewell and a celebration of the extraordinary life and career of his brother, partner, and friend.
