Spotify is rolling out an exciting new feature that enables subscribers to create more polished and personalized playlists. On Tuesday, the company introduced a custom transitions option, allowing users to automatically add transitions between tracks or customize their own using presets like fade, rise, or blend.
To access this feature, users can open any playlist and select “Mix” from the toolbar to start editing. While customizing transitions, users can adjust settings such as volume, EQ, and effects, and utilize waveform and beat data to determine the ideal points for transitions.
Spotify will also display the key and beats per minute for each track, making it easier for novice audio mixers to dive in.
These new options are aimed at playlist creators and music enthusiasts, who have collectively built nearly 9 billion playlists on Spotify’s platform.
This rollout complements other recent updates that give users greater control over their listening experience, including tools for adding, sorting, and editing playlists, customizing Discover Weekly genres, snoozing tracks, and making voice requests to the AI DJ. It also positions Spotify to compete with Apple Music’s upcoming AutoMix feature, currently available in the iOS 26 developer beta.

Premium subscribers can save and share their mixed playlists on social media or invite friends to collaborate. The mix feature can be toggled on or off, allowing users to revert to traditional playlists whenever desired.
Spotify suggests that mixing works best with tracks already produced for seamless transitions, such as house and techno, which tend to blend easily.
Custom transitions in playlists are now available to most eligible Premium users globally, although some markets in the APAC region will need to wait for this addition. The feature is being gradually rolled out to users with the latest iOS app update.
