OpenAI is unveiling a suite of new features for ChatGPT, enabling users to customize its responses with distinct “personalities” and modify its user interface.
With the launch of GPT-5, OpenAI has announced several updates for ChatGPT, featuring visual enhancements and performance improvements. Here’s a summary of the upcoming changes.
No More Model Picker
With GPT-5’s rollout, OpenAI is discontinuing the model picker and retiring older models like GPT-4o, GPT-4.1, and GPT-4.5. ChatGPT will now operate on GPT-5 by default, utilizing a “single auto-switching system” that integrates new models into a faster, smarter version, removing the need for users to switch models for different tasks. However, ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team users can still access a model picker to choose between GPT-5 or GPT-5 Thinking, with Pro and Team users also gaining access to GPT-Thinking Pro.
Introducing ChatGPT “Personalities”
A significant update allows users to choose from four new “personalities” for text-based interactions:
- Cynic: Sarcastic and blunt, delivering practical help with wit.
 - Robot: Precise and emotionless, offering direct answers without fluff.
 - Listener: Warm and relaxed, reflecting thoughts with clarity and gentle humor.
 - Nerd: Playful and curious, explaining concepts in an engaging manner.

These personalities offer a fun way to interact, but users can revert to ChatGPT’s default style at any time.
Enhanced Vibe Coding Capabilities
Vibe coding, which allows AI to generate code from natural language prompts, has received an upgrade. GPT-5 excels at processing complex requests for app or website creation, and users can preview and interact with the AI’s creations through Canvas.

Increased App Customization
OpenAI is adding new customization options for ChatGPT’s interface. Users can now choose an accent color to change the appearance of conversation bubbles, voice buttons, and highlighted text. This can be done through the Settings menu on both web and mobile platforms.
Advanced Voice Mode Adaptability
The advanced voice mode is being updated for paid users, improving its ability to understand instructions and allowing customization of its speaking style. OpenAI is retiring the standard voice mode, but paid users will receive “near-unlimited” access to the advanced version, while free users will see increased usage limits.
Simplified Gmail and Google Calendar Integration
OpenAI is streamlining the process for connecting Gmail and Google Calendar to ChatGPT. When users prompt ChatGPT with scheduling requests, it will now offer to link their accounts, enabling the AI to access their schedules and emails to assist with planning and notifications about missed messages. This integration will roll out to Pro users next week, with other tiers to follow.
