The Graduate Students Association of Ghana – USA Chapter (GRASAG-USA) has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic Z-9 military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, in Adansi Akrofuom, which claimed the lives of eight distinguished Ghanaians, including:
- Hon. Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence
- Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, MP for Tamale Central and Minister for Environment and Science
- Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
- Dr. Samuel Sarpong, National Vice Chairman of the NDC
- Mr. Samuel Aboagye, former NDC parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East
- Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Pilot
- Flight Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, Co-pilot
- Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, Crew Member
In their statement, GRASAG-USA extends deepest sympathies to President John Dramani Mahama, the bereaved families, and the people of Ghana.
They urge unity across political, ethnic, and social divides, calling on all Ghanaians to come together and foster solidarity rather than allowing this tragedy to sow division.
The association also appealed to commentators, especially on social and traditional media platforms, to honor the grieving period by practicing sensitivity and respect in their messages.
