President John Dramani Mahama has humorously advised men seeking long-lasting marriages to avoid arguing with their wives.
During a visit from a delegation of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, who presented gifts in honor of his 33rd wedding anniversary, Mahama shared insights from his own marital experience.
Reflecting on what has sustained his relationship with First Lady Lordina Mahama for over three decades, he said, “One of the key talents needed for a lasting marriage is to try not to argue with your wife.”
He recounted a memorable moment from their 30th anniversary celebration, recalling a conversation with his wife in their pastor’s office. During this discussion, Lordina humorously claimed all the credit for their enduring marriage. Mahama attempted to dispute her claim but quickly realized it was a losing battle.

“I tried to argue that I had also contributed to our marriage, but I couldn’t get a word in. My pastor simply smiled and advised, ‘Don’t argue. You’ll always lose.’ I took that advice to heart, and it has served me well,” he said with a laugh.
His remarks elicited laughter from the traditional leaders present, emphasizing that wisdom, humility, and humor are essential for a strong marriage.
The Western Regional House of Chiefs honored both President Mahama and his wife with commemorative gifts to celebrate their enduring partnership.
