The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that the Government of Ghana (GoG) has settled all arrears of the Capitation Grant for basic schools across the country.
The statement released today 23rd July, 2025 and signed by the Service’s Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, announced that the arrears cover the period of 2023.
“These arrears cover the period from 2023 to date and their payment reflects government’s strong resolve and practical support towards the smooth operation and effective management of basic education across the country.”, the statement read.
The Capitation Grant is a much sought-after resource in the smooth running of basic schools across the country.
The settlement, as announced in this statement, will bring some relief to stakeholders in the basic education sector.
The statement urged school leaders to use the funds responsibly and in line with established guidelines for utilisation of the Capitation Grant.
The statement also reiterated the Ghana Education Service’s commitment to the improvement of learning outcomes, enhance school management systems and ensure quality education for all Ghanaian children.
