The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Cape Coast has awarded 122 students for their outstanding academic performance for the 2023/2024 academic year, at a ceremony themed ““Beyond the Degree: Cultivating Employability in a Dynamic World.”
The event was chaired by the outgoing Provost of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies, Professor Kwame Osei-Kwarteng and was assisted by the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Augustine Tanle.
In his address, Professor Osei-Kwarteng commended the awardees for the excellent work they had done and encouraged them to work assiduously and not shy away from competition.
He emphasized that “The world out there is not easy…The world is full of competition. And if you don’t prepare yourself very well, you will be out-competed. ”You have to compete.”
The keynote address was delivered by the Human Resource and Administrative Manager of PE Power, Mr. Isaac Augustus Ogoe who urged the awardees to be innovative and pursue extra-curricular interests and activities.
He urged them to work diligently, be respectful and serve wherever they find themselves.
“I was talking about the fact that you need to be honest, get the job done, and let your bosses know that you dey for them,” he said adding that “do not, in the name of diversity, dress anyhow. You want to stand for accountability, and you want to see that the right thing is being done. But, please, do not, in the name of being ‘Gen Z’, just pick up the microphone and speak anyhow. Be mindful of what you say. Be mindful of where you are. If you are speaking to another person, or your manager, even if you have a case, be mindful the way you speak about it.”
Master Martin Efemor Paku reading the Bachelor of Science in Geography and Regional Planning programme, Miss Elizabeth Amoo reading the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management programme and Miss Emmanuella Agyemang reading the Bachelor of Science in Geography and Regional Planning programme were adjudged the overall best students in their respective levels.
They expressed joy for the recognition and pledged to work harder to sustain their academic achievements.
