Meta is engaged in discussions to acquire Play AI, a voice cloning startup, as it seeks to enhance its consumer-facing AI features and expand its research talent pool, according to Bloomberg sources.
The tech giant aims to obtain Play AI’s technology and integrate some of its staff into the company. Play AI allows users to clone various voices for AI applications, such as customer service. The startup has raised a total of $23.5 million from investors including 500 Startups, Kindred Ventures, Race Capital, 500 Global, and Soma Capital, as reported by Crunchbase.

Currently, Meta enables creators on its social platforms to build chatbots and has introduced video editing features in its Meta AI chatbot. Acquiring Play AI would allow Meta to incorporate audio capabilities into its creative suite.
Neither Meta nor Play AI responded immediately to requests for comment.
