YouTube is rolling out an AI-generated summary feature similar to Google’s AI Overviews for its Premium members. According to a blog post, some users in the U.S. will see an “AI-powered search results carousel” when searching for topics related to shopping, travel, or local activities.
The search results carousel will display a prominent video clip at the top, followed by thumbnails of related videos, along with an AI-generated text summary addressing the user’s query. To view the full video, users can tap on the main clip at the top of the carousel.

Currently, this feature is available only on iOS and Android devices for videos in English and will be tested until July 30, according to YouTube’s experiments page. Access is limited to a randomly selected group of Premium members.
Additionally, YouTube is expanding its conversational AI tool, allowing some non-Premium users in the U.S. to ask questions about videos. This feature was first introduced in 2023.
