A second building collapse in Cape Coast has left one person dead another hospitalized just days after a building collapsed at London Bridge in the metropolis.
The collapsed building is believed to be the family house of Mr. Allotey Jacobs, a former Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The incident happened at dawn on Tuesday, June 25,2025 at about 1am on the Idun Ammisaekyir stretch of road, where a residential building gave way, trapping the two occupants beneath the debris.
Both victims were rushed to the Cape Coast Teaching hospital.
An elderly woman who was one of the victims has died. Her grandson, the other survivor an 18-year-old is still on admission at the hospital.
This has raised fresh concerns about the structural safety of ageing buildings in the historic city.
The June 25 incident, follows a similar accident on Saturday morning at London Bridge, which claimed the lives of two elderly residents and left three others injured.
Following that the city authorities led by the Chief Executive Officer of the Cape Coast Metropolis, MCE George Justice Arthur, begun demolishing visibly dilapidated buildings which posted threat to resident.
In an interview with ATLFM NEWS, Mr. Justice Arthur said ““We reach consensus with the families involved before any action is taken.”
“It is my responsibility to make sure that the citizens are living in peace,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Cape Coast South MP, George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan has emphasized the need preserve the city’s historic architecture.
During the visit to the London Bridge after the incident on Saturday, he spoke to the media emphasizing “these are ancient buildings that form part of the city’s identity. We must maintain and preserve them because of their historical value”
