Member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua, Hon. Seth Osei Akoto, has raised concerns over the government’s newly announced Agriculture Transformation Agenda, calling for greater clarity, transparency, and public engagement in its implementation.
Speaking on Peace FM, Hon. Osei Akoto acknowledged the initiative as a step in the right direction but criticized its lack of detailed explanation.
“Ghanaians are yet to fully understand how impactful this program can be. The lack of detailed explanation makes it difficult to assess its relevance,” he stated.
He further urged the government to stay true to its 2024 election campaign promise of increasing cocoa prices, noting that fulfilling such commitments is crucial to maintaining trust with farmers and stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
The concerns follow an address in Parliament by Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, who unveiled the Agriculture Transformation Agenda, an ambitious initiative aimed at bridging the gap between traditional farming methods and modern agricultural practices.
A key component of the agenda is the Feed Industry Program, which seeks to boost the consumption and export of fresh food.
The Minister explained that the program would also introduce advanced irrigation systems to support dry-season farming and improve overall productivity.
“The machines introduced as part of the irrigation effort will significantly enhance farming efficiency, especially in the off-season,” Minister Opoku said.
While the program has been praised for its potential to modernize Ghana’s agriculture sector, calls for clearer communication and fulfilment of past promises continue to dominate public discourse.
