At WWDC 2025, Apple unveiled a new version of Xcode, its app development suite, which now incorporates OpenAI’s ChatGPT for coding, documentation generation, and more. The update also allows developers to use API keys to integrate AI models from other providers into Xcode for enhanced programming suggestions.
“Developers can connect AI models directly into their coding experience to write code, tests, and documentation; iterate on designs; fix errors; and more,” the company stated in a blog post regarding the new Xcode 26.
With the integration of AI in Xcode, developers can utilize tools to generate code previews and perform various tasks. Users can access ChatGPT within Xcode without needing to create an account, although paid ChatGPT users can link their accounts to benefit from increased rate limits.
In related AI news, Apple introduced the Foundation Models framework, enabling developers to access the company’s AI models directly on their devices. The company claims that developers only need to write three lines of code to utilize these models, which can also run locally on Apple Silicon devices.
