The Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly (CCMA) has issued a directive to all commercial drivers within the Cape Coast metropolis, asking them to refrain from charging old fares, before the nationwide 15% reduction of transport fares.
The statement, signed by the Head of the Media Relations and Publicity Unit of the Assembly, Mr. Patrick Yeboah Hayford, intimated that the Office of the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Cape Coast had received complaints that some commercial drivers “blatantly” refused to adhere to the newly approved fees.
The 15% reduction in fares took effect on 24th May, 2025. The reduction applied to all forms of commercial transport i.e. taxis, intra-city buses (Tro-Tro), intercity buses (Long Distance) as well as Haulage.
The Assembly warned that any driver found contravening the directive would be dealt with accordingly.
“The Assembly has deployed officers at vantage points in the metropolis to ensure full compliance.”, the statement read.
The Assembly appealed to the public to report all drivers who flouted the directive to the nearest police station.
